Day 3: Fri 23 Apr - Wondai to Chinchilla, 164 km

6-23 degC, fine and sunny

We were packed up and on the road a little before 8 this morning simply because we were awake and had nothing else to do. We didn’t stop until we reached the outskirts of Chinchilla where we brewed up.

Whilst we were drinking our coffees Greg consulted Mrs Google and decided that Chinchilla would be a good place to stop for the night. We tried the Showgrounds first (about 10:30 am) and they were closed to RV’ers until 2:30 pm due to school activities. We thought we could just stop on the side of the road outside the showgrounds, change into riding gear, get the bikes off and go exploring, and come back at 2:30 pm and check in. We had another think, consulted WikiCamps and decided to try a Hipcamp called Ruben Lagoons Campground. There are three different areas, each with their own rate. We chose the power and water option, just for a change. All payment is done via the Hipcamp App.

The camp is a great place to stay apart from the pyromaniacs all lighting their fires despite being camped in a powered site, and spewing their smoke over all other campers other than themselves!

We rode into town to have a look and went through the Art Gallery and then the museum. Made our way home via Woolies for a few resupplies.
