Day 56: Tue 15 Jun - Kununurra

13-34 degC, a little warmer than we have been used to but didn't stop us doing stuff

After a brew and a piece of toast we set off to do the Mirima National Park walks (four). Conveniently, the van park backs onto the NP, so we were able to walk right out onto the path that lead us through Hidden Valley.   What an interesting little park so close to the town.  It looks like a mini version of the Bungle Bungles.   NPs has done a fantastic with signage, elevated walks, safety rails (no common sense around these days) and pathways.  It's one of the most speccy backdrops to a caravan park that we've ever seen.  About 6 km later, we were back home having breakfast.

We sat down with the maps and a calendar and planned the next 10 days and booked parks where we could. We had to extend our stay here in Kununurra by two days in order to book two cruises - a sunset cruise on Lake Kununurra and a morning cruise on Lake Argyle. We decided not to take the van out there, only to be possibly disappointed by not being able to get a site.  It's a deadend road and there's no backup options.  We'd rather do a day trip and a cruise and have a look around after the cruise. There will always be a next time when all these people that would normally do a cruise or overseas holiday, are not here clogging up our space!

After lunch we took a ride into town for a few more supplies, and then did a ride around the outskirts of town, just to get some km up. Greg almost got cleaned up by a car load of local people, when they turned left almost straight over Greg. Fortunately, Greg had anticipated this and had slowed down enough to avoid being squished; we reckon they did it on purpose as they seemed to be 'prowling' for trouble. Riding the streets and paths here is like being back in Alice Springs, not only glass everywhere, but live bodies as well, right smack-bang in the middle of the path. At least we haven't had any verbal abuse yet, which is common in The Alice.  While it has some nice landscapes and parks, we can't ignore the rubbish laying around everywhere, doesn't seem to be any pride in the place.

The rest of the afternoon was spent catching up on other traveller's blogs and reading.

Cloud formations look a little like a rising sun badge

Amazing that people have to be warned about the dangers, perhaps we need to leave it to the Darwin Theory

Awesome colours

Pretty amazing details of the erosion

A normal-looking Boab tree and and not so normal-looking one

Murals at a pre-school we came across

An enormous Boab tree, many of 100s around the town

Wrap-up and Reflections

We have been so busy since arriving home that it has taken us two weeks to get around to our ‘wrap up’ of the trip.   It was so nice to be...
