5-21 degC, a fine and sunny start to the day, ending with overcast skies
and annoying drizzle
After breakfast, Wendy hit the supermarket for resupplies while Greg
completed the packing up and filling the water tanks. We then made a brew to go
and headed out of Leonora on the Laverton Road to meet up with Klas & Mona,
and Christina and Wolfgang. We were number two in the convoy of three to
Laverton and beyond to Jubilee, an area on the vast Goldfields South of
Laverton.
We stopped at Laverton for lunch and had hot takeaways from the servo
and ate them in the van. We do not normally eat takeaways for lunch, but these
were delicious. The road south was mostly dirt and became narrower and narrower.
The surface of the road was mostly good with a few patches of bumpiness, and
there was one quite narrow part that lasted for all of 10 m, so was not an
issue. There are thousands of solid rocky
areas we could have set up but our guides picked a great area where they have
been before; all to ourselves.
No sooner had we arrived at our destination, than it started to drizzle.
This is due to the front that is passing over South-western West Australia now.
Not an ideal start to our ‘gold detecting’ days, with more rain expected
tomorrow. Not to worry; we are with
great friends and good company, so no matter what the weather is, we will have
a good time.
With the dirt roads and tracks we will have to keep our eye on the
amount of rain we get so we are not stuck here for longer than planned.
