Greg was up before the sparrows again, and Wendy followed not too much later. Morning walks were followed by a leisurely breakfast knowing we only had a few hundred km to drive.
A late departure for us on this trip (apart from the original departure from home), we were on the road about 9 am and first stop was at Alpha for a van brew then a wander. These small towns are really suffering, none more so than Jericho, where we were going to stop and have a wander, however, we did not see much that tickled our “must wander” feet.
Onward to Barcaldine (or Barcy as it is known by the locals). We had decided we really wanted to stay at the Showgrounds, so last night we tried to book on line (the only way you can book when not in Barcy) but the website was as user friendly as Windows 2000 was back in the day. Anyway, we drove in and there was a sign saying ‘scan the code and book on line’. We chose a site and did just that and it worked this time. It is no cheaper to stay at these Showgrounds than at one of the three van parks in town. However, we were, and still are (at the time of writing) the only campers here. There are 20 sites with power and water and the price to stay is the same whether you want power and water or not. So here we are. The reason we are not at the free camp just outside of town is that it is only a 20 hour stopover and we want at least two nights here. When we drove passed the free camp, there was not a single camper there.
Making full use of the power and water, Wendy did two loads of washing (would have been only 3/4 of a load in a domestic machine) and cleaned the house. Greg went for a ride to check what to see and do here tomorrow. Today being a public holiday, not much is open.
The road we travelled today was a new one in our caravanning adventures and was the best so far.
We had a lovely roast dinner whilst watching the local touch footy clubs having a session.
