Day 13: Mon 3 May - Longreach to Winton, 178 km; total towed: 1 900 km

16-31 deg C, fine and sunny, with a very strong wind

Because we had been in Longreach in Aug last year, we didn't feel the need to stick around, so headed on to Winton, (the capital of dinosaurs) where we stayed in Aug last year as well. We slept in a bit this morning and were not out of bed until 6:30 am, consequently, we were only on the road by 9 am. We stopped about half way to Winton for mornos. We were on our allotted site at Winton Wanderers Caravan Park by 11:45 am. This park only opened in April this year, and has all drive through sites with concrete slabs, but no shade. In time there will be though. The ablution block is still being worked on, however, is quite functional. The water is no different to any other in Winton, smells of sulphur, but when you put it through a filter, you can't smell a thing.  Like most outback towns they get their water from the Great Artesian Basin.

After lunch and a very short LLD (we thought we would be doing a Mary Poppins in the van due to the wind), whilst Wendy worked, Greg rode into town and out near the Bradensburg National Part for a recon.  The tail wind home was very pleasant.

We are staying here for a definite two nights, maybe three, depending on Wendy's wrok commitments.
