Today was a 'play tourist in Mt Isa' day. Wendy had some washing to do, so we had mornos while that was being done then walked in to the Tourist Infromation Centre where we did the Isa Experience tour. Not a spectacular display, but we got to watch a short video on how and why Mt Isa was started (there was shiny stuff in the ground - copper, lead, zince and silver) and the difference between the mine side and town side of the river. It was amazing to see how primitive things were when it all started and how things are now, with some of the machinery being used even designed and made here in the Isa. We then wandered through the garden area which had a short botanical walk displaying all the plants/tress/etc that grow out here. We wanted to visit the fish hatchery, however, it was closed down last year by council, and not re-opened. All of the fish were relocated to the local dam and have probably ended up on someone's plate! The art gallery, which is part of the info centre was displaying aboriginal paintings, none of which you were allowed to photograph, but they all looked much the same.
It was then time for lunch, so just had to visit McDonald's for our favourite chicken wraps, and then wandered through various shops, some just browsing, others with the intent to buy stuff.
We were home about 1:30 pm, whereupon we had a cuppa, then Wendy had a short LLD. Greg mucked about with the bikes and then did his afternoon exercise routine. We both did some pre-departure work for tomorrow morning as we’re heading out.
