Day 45: Fri 4 Jun - Darwin

23-33 degC, felt a little cooler, perhaps less humid during the day

After getting our individual walks and breakfast out of the way we went our own way today. Greg cycled into the city to visit the Botanic Gardens and was very impressed at how it had been developed since we were here last.  They've built a very nice events centre and new plants and trees sections had been added overall.  He also went to the city for another wander and checked out the huge building program going on at Larrakeyah Barracks.   In the meantime Wendy took the Cruiser to the Army base at Robertson Barracks, where we both had been stationed at different times.  After buying some stuff at the Army Clothing Store she visited a pharmacist friend at the Health Centre.

Greg had lunch at home.  However Wendy went into the city with another pharmacist friend (non-military) who works for National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre as the Clinical Pharmacist on the Australian Medical Assistance Team, based here in in Darwin. This is a federal government initiative and the team/s are now often the first into a place requiring assistance after a disaster, instead of sending in the military every time.  They have also been heavily involved in the Howard Springs Quarantine Centre over the last few months. Wendy toured their warehouse and they certainly don't do things by half measure. They are very well organised and the military could learn a few things, however, we are too set in our ways.
