Day 44: Thu 3 Jun - Darwin

23-33 degC

Big ride today - 48 km. Rode out to Lee Point, then to the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT), then home. Not sure why we rode to Lee Point, however, it was a nice ride along a smooth bike path most of the way, and Wendy got to see the caravan park she and rest of the Army hospital set up camp at, when she was on Exercise Kangaroo 92.

We stopped at a coffee shop at Nightcliff for a well earned, later than usual, energy resupply.

MAGNT had some pretty good exhibits, the most interesting and sobering was of Cyclone Tracy; it was a wonder not more people were killed. Greg was deployed to assist the local NT cops in restoring law and order to the city after the cyclone.

It was almost midday by the time we finished at MAGNT so rode home before it got too hot; it was only 31 degC. Lunch was followed by an LLD, then a haircut for Greg. Wendy was about half way through the job when the lady from next door came and asked if Wendy was a hairdresser as she needed her hair cut. Wendy said if she didn't mind looking like Greg with a #4 cut all over, then yes. She even offered to pay Wendy to have a go, however, Wendy declined. So, the lady did it herself and she didn't do too bad a job either. Wendy has a date with a hair salon on Sat morning to have hers done.

Late this afternoon, we drove into the Mindil Beach Markets to have some dinner and watch the sunset. There was a bit of smoke on the horizon so it wasn't too bad a sunset today. The markets have grown since we were here last (it has been 20 years though), with a lot more food stalls, selling mainly the same, or very similar, food. There were also many non-food stalls, but nothing jumped out and grabbed us.

So ends another day in the Top End of NT.

Wrap-up and Reflections

We have been so busy since arriving home that it has taken us two weeks to get around to our ‘wrap up’ of the trip.   It was so nice to be...
