Day 18: Sat 8 May - Boulia to Mt Isa, 305 km; total towed: 2564

17-32 degC, cloudy with lots of sun, warm in Mt Isa

We were on the road just after 8 am because we thought we might be stopping to see stuff, and wanted to get to Mt Isa at a decent time to get ready to go to the pub for dinner. As it turned out, the only place to stop was Dajarra, and whilst we did stop to brew up, we didn't stop for any longer than was necessary.  The local kids were tearing around on their quads right near us and making a hell of a din.

The scenery today was varied again: lots of nothing (flat, featureless, deserty) interspersed with quite wooded, green grassy, spinifex areas. There were even a few puddles in the creek lines. We also crossed the Manganese Ridge which was very pretty and a bit of a change.

We arrived at Mt Isa a tad before 1 pm, set up, had lunch, then an LLD. To stretch the legs we walked some of the way into town, stopping at Harvey Norman and Supercheap. Bought an external in-line water filter at Supercheap as the one we had broke when we tried to hook it up this afternoon. Back to the van for a cuppa and a load of washing before heading out to the pub - The Overlander Hotel. The last time we dined there was with Gunther & Yvonne back in 2018, 30th June in fact, and the meals were good. Tonight they wer just as good. Lucky we had the 1 km walk home to settle the tummies.

Wrap-up and Reflections

We have been so busy since arriving home that it has taken us two weeks to get around to our ‘wrap up’ of the trip.   It was so nice to be...
