Another perfect day in Boulia, and as usual, we started it with a walk. The mornings out here are specy, the flocks of Corellas and Galahs start screeching just before dawn and then take flight in their 1,000s in preparation for an early morning drink at the billabong. Both sunrise and sunset are worth getting out and about for.
Nice to stay the third day to ensure we slow down a little. Boulia is surrounded by a lot of nothing much at all, therefore our rides have consisted of riding out of town till you've gone far enough and then riding back. The silence, tranquility and isolation are all stunning and sometimes you have to pinch yourself to ensure you're not dreaming. The horizon is flat and featureless. There is very little chance of encounting any traffic at all so the vast majority of time you have the wide, smooth highway to yourself. Greg did some off-road riding on his MTB, but once again always to nowhere and back again.
Wendy had to work this morning so Greg went off on his own towards Birdsville; he didn't quite make it all the way. When Wendy knocked off for the day, we did some drone flying and then went for a ride towards Mt Isa, again didn't make it all the way. Checked out the local cemetery which just happened to be on our way to nowhere. Back at camp it was time to pack up the bikes and awning and get ready for dinner and the sunset.
After dinner we decided we should go and sit outside for a while with a sundowner whislt the flies were on their way to bed. No sooner had we parked ourselves in our seats than the ferral over the road from us decided he needed to put his music on and play it so that the whole of Boulia could hear it aswell. He then came out and aksed us if it was too loud to which we replied "YES!" and so did the man behind us. Well, that didn't go down too well and after a lot of swearing, he turned it up again when the wife came home.
At the time off writing this, they may have been told to turn it off as there is no noise coming from there. Ooops, spoke too soon. There is always one fidiot in every park. Trouble is, he is a semi-permanent so the owners may have an issue should be continue as he may drive customers away. However, it is a really nice park and the only one within coo-ee of the town.
