Day 91: Tue 20 Jul – Jubilee Mine

8-16 degC, cloudy and cool all day, with a few spots of rain

Greg was up before the sun as usual this morning and did his normal walk.  Wendy left on her walk about the same time as he returned to the van. After breakfast, Greg went out with Klas to get some lessons on the fine art of gold detecting.  Wendy kept herself busy in the van and also made raspberry muffins in the van oven for the first time. Despite not having two of the key ingredients and not knowing what gas setting referred to 180 degC, the muffins turned out very nice.

They were ready just as everyone returned to the camp for mornos; hot coffee with warm muffins, in the middle of nowhere, amazing!  The muffins were a real hit and tasted jolly nice.  Our camp would make a great location for a café, “The Outback Café”.

After mornos, Greg went out with a borrowed detector on his own, and Wendy accompanied Christina to see how the gold searching is done. Greg did not find any gold but detected plenty of metal bits and pieces, whilst Christina found a small nugget just after Wendy left her.

After lunch and a well-earned rest, Greg went for a ride and Wendy relaxed with a magazine.  The phone/internet drops in and out but if it wasn’t for a mine not far away, we wouldn’t have any service at all. Pre-dinner drinks were taken at 4 pm, but a little over an hour later everyone was retreating to their vans as the wind and cold started to get to us.  A lovely roast dinner for us before retiring.
