After a little sleep in, walks and breakfast, we were packed up and on the road by 9:05 am. Compared to yesterday not that much to see along the way; just the normal aliens and a few spaceships, oh and Elvis and The Hulk. First stop was at Barrow Creek, in front of the Barrow Creek Hotel with plenty of other RV'ers. After our cuppa, we explored the hotel, which is looking a little sad at the moment, however, it seems they have received a grant to do it up. We then explored the old Telegraph Station, which has not changed, with the exception of maybe a new coat of paint, since we were here in 2018. A lovely stone fence surrounds the complex.
Back on the road, we stopped to see the Barrow Creek WWII site, complete with the concrete slabs they laid. The area was used by the Australian Army as a staging camp for troops and supplies moving from Adelaide, through Alice Springs, to Darwin. There were supposed to be interpretive signs at each of the slabs, however, some thoughtless and possibly brainless individual/s have requisitioned them; all that is left are the steel posts. There is only one sign left, at the entrance, which is informative. The area is a great free camp as there's stacks of room and it comes complete with concrete slabs.
Lunch was had at Wycliffe Well, where you can have a picture taken with Elvis, the Incredible Hulk, and a number of Aliens. We were thinking of spending the night there, however, the aliens didn't look that friendly. Apart from the little green men, there is not much else happening at Wycliffe Well. The van parked look nice though, with some green grass.
After leaving the aliens, we decided that Devils Marbles would be a good place to camp for the night, even though we had been there before, back in 2018. We were lucky to get the last site available. They now have numbered sites, possibly to stop people from just parking anywhere and stopping others from getting in. They have also turned some of the back of the camp into a day-use-area-only, which has also reduced the available camp sites. We saw at least a dozen RVs drive in after us and then drive out again. It's not that they are short of land out that way.
After setting up, we decided to have a little rest to let the heat of the day wear off (not quite used to these warm temps yet - -2 to 36) before doing one of the walks. After our walk, we waited for the lovely sunset, then settled in for the evening. All was quiet, and very dark by 8:30 pm. Just after midnight a raging wind came up and we could hear people pulling in awnings and fixed guy ropes.
One thing we've enjoying seeing as we drive is the hundreds of flocks of budgies. Unlike the caged ones these guys are all green. Most in fairly small flocks, 50-100 and flying incredibly fast. A tactic they use to avoid being the next tasty snack for a bird of prey, and there's plenty of them out here.
